Film Inspiration {Princess Mononoke}

Posted by
I recently re-watched Princess Mononoke {もののけ姫} at the Sunshine theater here in New York City. Growing up in the era of Studio Ghibli made me a huge fan of MIyazaki's work. Miyazaki is inspirational to me in so many ways- his stories are a creation between myth and dreams. It lets you escape from reality but yet it still captures cultural significance.

Princess Mononoke is a story about the young Emishi warrior's involvement in the battle between the supernatural guardians of a forest and the humans who consume and damage the resources of the forest. The term "Mononoke" is a general term for "spirit" or "Monster" in Japanese. San {Spirit Princess} is the human daughter and main character of Moro- the giant wolf goddess and one of the supernatural protectors of the forest. San being brought up by wolves as one of their own, has a deep hatred for human kind and helps the supernatural guardians protect the forest.
San's character is courageous, independent and very passionate. The woman I envisioned ALIBI BY JO.LIU jewelry to be worn by is someone that can identify with these characteristics. The collection {Chapter IV} is a juxtaposition between architectural and a hint of tribal.
